Chateau des Sept Tours, Courcelles-de-Touraine

The hotel

Château des Sept Tours is as close to a fairytale golf retreat as France can offer. The 15th-century château was transformed into a hotel some 30 years ago, and its 22 bedrooms sit within the historic main building alongside a convivial bar and a gourmet restaurant. For a more relaxed meal, the brasserie in the adjacent L’Orangerie — which also houses the clubhouse — provides an excellent alternative.

The golf

The château’s own 18-hole course winds through ancient woodland, with well-placed bunkers, compact greens and a handful of water features demanding thought rather than power. Narrow fairways and a layout that rewards strategy over length make it a genuinely interesting test. Touraine, Ardée and Baugé-Bontigné are all within 40 minutes, and Sablé-Solesmes is worth the hour’s drive for a special day out.

The setting

You are deep in the heart of Loire châteaux country here — the Château de Langeais is in the neighbouring village. For golfers building a tailor-made golf holiday in the Loire Valley, Sept Tours offers a rare combination: a historic stay, good food, and a course you can walk to in minutes. It is the kind of place that makes you want to stay longer.
